Irma Jean "Jeanne" was born July 27, 1928 in Alliance to Joe Devol and Blanch Gwendolyn (Morris) Bignell. Irma grew up on the family ranch in Morrill County and attended school in Alliance. She graduated from Alliance High School with the class of 1946 and worked at the Telephone Company. Irma Jean "Jeanne" was born July 27, 1928 in Alliance to Joe Devol and Blanch Gwendolyn (Morris) Bignell. Irma grew up on the family ranch in Morrill County and attended school in Alliance. She graduated from Alliance High School with the class of 1946 and worked at the Telephone Company. Jeanne and Harold "Smitty" Schmitt met in Alliance and were married Oct. 16, 1949 at the Presbyterian Church. Their family was blessed with two sons, Philip and Charles. Jeanne worked at the Hemingford School cafeteria for many years while the boys were in school. Jeanne & Smitty were long time members of the Hemingford United Methodist Church. They were all around Hemingford enthusiasts and avid supporters of the Bobcats where they attended all the sports events. They were also very active with the Cattle Capitol Shiners'. Jeaanne was an avid swimmer and had a definite zest for life. Her smile was legend and she loved a good get together, especially with family. There was always a good time to be had when the Schmitt's hosted a party. She was the family "rock" and a devoted Mother and a really cool grandmother. She patiently smiled through Smitty's many stories and then always had her own version to add. She will be missed by her loving family and many friends. Jeanne is survived by her son Philip (Vicki) Schmitt of Gering and their children Sarah and Chris Wilson of Bozeman, MT, Lisa and Clint Taylor of Cheyenne, WY, Kimberly and Travis Clause of Loveland, CO and Tyler Roland of Ogallala, NE.; son Charles "Chuck" (Susie) Schmitt of Casper, WY and their children Robert and Julie of Casper, WY.; four great grandchildren, Addison and Mattea Clause and Joseph and Alexandria Taylor; her brother Ed and Jeannine Bignell and sister-in-law Barbara Bignell all of Alliance and sister Alice Steinruck of New Jersey. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Smitty, her parents, her in-laws Edwin and Verda Schmitt, her brother Bill; sister and brother- in- law Nancy and Keith Bennett and grandson David Schmitt. Burial was in the Hemingford Cemetery.
