Description	:	Irma Dawson, age 90, of Huron, died Sunday, November 6, 2011, at the SunQuest Health Care Center. Her funeral service was at 10:30 AM on Saturday, November 12th at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Donald Crippen officiating. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery. Irma Kathrine Hofer was born January 8, 1921, to John W. and Kathrine (Stahl) Hofer, on her grandparent's farm north of Huron. She moved with her parents to Yale, where they owned the Yale Café. Irma attended Yale school through the 8th grade. She was very active in all sports. The family moved to Huron in 1936, where Irma completed her education at Huron High School and worked at the NYA Café. Irma was baptized in 1939 by Rev. J.M. Tschetter at the Bethel Church. After graduation, she worked for Fairmont's and Swifts Creamery, and working in stores. Irma moved to Vancouver, Washington in 1941, where she worked for Kaiser Shipyard as a cashier in the lunch room until 1944, then moved to Astoria, Oregon. Irma married Jack B. Dawson on April 26, 1947, at Elma, Washington. They returned to Astoria, and in 1946 their daughter Sharon Lea was born and arrived in Astoria, Jack and Irma adopted her at age 2 months, May 1946. The Dawson's moved to Alpena, South Dakota, March of 1948. There they were owners of a café. Jack went to work for Metz Bakers in 1952, family moved to Huron, SD. Irma was very active in Girl Scouts and PTA. Irma enjoyed helping care for parents and busy with Jack's work. She worked in the Thrift Store. The family moved to Mitchell in 1952, as Jack was transferred as supervisor. Their daughter completed her education in 1964 and the Dawson's were transferred again to Omaha Nebraska. There were more transfers for Jack until retirement, when they moved back to Huron in 1990. Jack and Irma were interested in fishing, bowling, always ready to help family and friends. She was preceded in death by father John in 1957; her mother Katie in 1987; her brothers Harold Hofer in 1980 and Willard Hofer in 2011; her nephew Ronald Hofer in 1965; her grandson Michael A.
