Description	:	Irvin Glick Jr. (Jay), 97 years, passed away the evening of November 6, 2018, with his wife, family and friends by his side at the Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick following a brief illness. Jay was born July 6, 1921, to Irvin and Etta Glick, Marshall County, Kansas. Jay left school in the 8th grade to help his father farm. Read More	Irvin Glick Jr. (Jay), 97 years, passed away the evening of November 6, 2018, with his wife, family and friends by his side at the Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice House in Kennewick following a brief illness. Jay was born July 6, 1921, to Irvin and Etta Glick, Marshall County, Kansas. Jay left school in the 8th grade to help his father farm. Of all the farm chores he had, shucking corn was the one he disliked the most! He also worked at the Firestone Rubber Plant, and later enlisted in the Navy. Unfortunately, a torn retina caused an early discharge, and Jay was blind in that eye the rest of his life. He married Frances Ann Smith from Marysville and in 1948 they relocated to Richland, Washington so both could work at Hanford. Jay enrolled in night courses to gain knowledge and skills to further his career. It paid off, as he was selected to join the core group of leaders who founded Sandvik Special Metals in Finley. He was proud that his payroll number was "008". He made several trips to Sandviken Sweden to visit the parent company and ensure the new company's success. He lost his wife Fran in 1992, but fortunately, two years later, reconnected with Betty Lee Smith (no relation to Fran) who had been his teenage sweetheart many years ago. They married and made Kennewick their home until his passing. Jay always enjoyed new, fast cars! He usually traded in his car every other year, even traveling to Detroit to drive his new car off the assembly line and all the way back to the Tri-Cities. He and Betty lived independently in their own home until his illness. He leaves behind his wife of over 24 years, Betty Glick, and family and friends. His parents and two sisters, Ruth and Ethel preceded him in death. Jay was also a body builder. Although not a professional competitor, he developed his musculature, was very health and diet conscious, and made weight lifting a part of his daily regimen into his 80's. We wish to thank: the doctors and nurses at Trios Hospital for their efforts and care; Hospice House for constant, quiet comfort provided Jay and his loved ones; and to dear friends Peggy and Tim Paulsell for their abiding love and help. Jay had no children. Jay will be buried in the Marysville, Kansas cemetery at a later date this fall.
