Description	:	Irvin Peter Weber 83 of Gilbertville died peacefully on Friday May 22 at his home of cancer. He was born November 2 1925 in Gilbertville the son of Joseph G. and Gertrude Schares Weber. He married Rita Lutgen on October 18 1954 in Gilbertville. He was employed at Rath Packing Company in the Meat Cutting Department for 39 years. Read More	Irvin Peter Weber 83 of Gilbertville died peacefully on Friday May 22 at his home of cancer. He was born November 2 1925 in Gilbertville the son of Joseph G. and Gertrude Schares Weber. He married Rita Lutgen on October 18 1954 in Gilbertville. He was employed at Rath Packing Company in the Meat Cutting Department for 39 years. He farmed south of Gilbertville and he and his wife owned and operate Gilbertville Carpet and Furniture Store. He served in the United States Army during World War II for eleven months until the end of the war. Then served in the Korean War at which time he was captured in May of 1951. He was held in a Chinese Prison Camp until September of 1953. He received several medals including the Purple Heart presented to him by Senator Harkin. He was a member of VFW Past Commander of the American Legion of Gilbertville Catholic Order of Foresters and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Survivors include: his wife Rita of Gilbertville six daughters Janet (Chuck) Schupbach of Cedar Falls Cheryl (Michael McGonegle) Weber of Waterloo Jean (Joe) Etringer of Gilbertville Lori (Pat) Meighan of Bettendorf Julie Weber of Denver CO and Kari (Pat) Hogan of Waterloo 13 grandchildren Ashley Etringer Emily Etringer Amy Etringer Lindsay McGonegle Jamie McGonegle Ryan Meighan Nicole Meighan Jason Meighan Sydney Hogan Taylor Hogan Avery Hogan Andrea Schupbach and Michelle Schupbach a brother Tony (LaDean) Weber of Gilbertville two sisters Leona Weber of Jesup and Ida Delagardelle of Waterloo a sister-in-law Viola Weber of Cresco. Preceded in death by: his parents a daughter Patty Weber three brothers Gene (Rita) Weber Alvin and Cleo Weber two brother-in-laws Tim Delagardelle and Ray Weber. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday May 27 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial in St. Marys Cemetery both in Gilbertville. Full military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Nugent-Demuth Post 714. Public visitation from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South St. where there will be a 4 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary and 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation also one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church. Memorials: may be directed to the Bosco System Columbus High School and Immaculate Conception Church.
