Description	:	After the tragic death of Mae's son, Irwin, her daughter-in-law, Virginia eventually remarried Carroll Truitt; however, Mae and Virginia stayed close the rest of Mae's life. Whenever Virginia's family would go to Carroll to visit Virginia's parents, they always stopped to see Mae and her husband, Harry. After Virginia's parents had both passed away, she and her husband, Carroll, would still occasionally go to visit Mae. Mae passed away before Virginia's son David and I were married, and I never had the privilege of meeting this special lady that the family thought so much of.... Obituary From Carroll Times Herald, Monday, October 30, 1989: Funeral services for Mrs. Mae Kunecke, 88, of Carroll were held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 30 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with the Rev. Lenny Tuttle of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Mrs. Kunecke died Friday, Oct. 27, 1989, at the Carroll Health Center. Visitation began Sunday at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home. Burial was in the Carroll City Cemetery. Born Mae Sharp Sept. 29, 1901, in Carroll County, she was a daughter of Arthur and Alma (Rehder) Sharp. As a girl, she attended Carroll schools. On July 11, 1948, she married Harry Kunecke at the Methodist Church in Carroll. She was a lifelong resident of Carroll, and during her working years was co-owner for five years with Lois Anson of the Westend Café in Carroll. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Carroll, the Rebekah Lodge of Carroll where she was a past Noble Grand. She was also a Gold Star Mother. Survivors include two sister-in-laws, Lois (Mrs. Telford) Anson of Carroll and Betty (Mrs. Roland) Birch of Burlington; two nephews, A. Neal Sharp of Plainfield, Ill., and Charles L. Sharp Jr. of West Burlington; and two nieces, Mrs. Lee Ann Geinger of Omaha and Virginia (Mrs. Bruce) Little of Davenport. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Erwin Ewart in 1944; her husband in 1975 and two brothers, C. Leonard Sharp and Clarence Sharp.
