Read More	Transcription of text in document Hooper Sentinel 1 Oct 1931 DEATH SUMMONS COME TO IKE BRANDT Again it becomes our duty to chronicle the passing of another of Hooper's well known and respected residents in the death of Ike Brandt, who passed away at his home in this city at 8:45 Tuesday evening, September 29, 1931 at the age of 69 years, 8 months and 5 days. Diabetes, from which he had been a sufferer, is attributed to the cause of his death. His failing health began a couple of years ago, but it was not until about 3 months ago that the serious aspect of his condition became evident. Three weeks ago he underwent an operation in hopes of staying the ravages of the disease but all was of no avail and death came to end his sufferings. Mr. Brandt was a native of Illinois having been born in Peoria county on January 24, 1862, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brandt. There he grew to young manhood and in 1881 came west to Nebraska, locating in this vicinity in February of that year. Since then with the exception of about ten years spent in farming in Nance county, Missouri and Oregon this place and community had been his home. He was a man much devoted to his family and home, and with whom it was a pleasure to have had as a friend. Though of a quiet disposition he easily made friends and these friendships endured through the years. While his presence will be greatly missed in the family circle, it will also be much noticed by the friends who had daily contact with him. Mr. Brandt was united in marriage to Miss. Tabitha Jane Denman, September 15, 1885. To this union eleven children were born of whom nine survive. One child died in infancy, and a daughter, Mrs. James F Taylor passed away a little over four years ago. The living children are, John and Eskel of West Point, Edward of Ames, and Albert, Martin, Carrel, Mrs. Harvey Warner, Mrs. Charles Johnson and Miss Ruby, all of this place and locality. He is also survived by two brothers, Herman Brandt of Hooper, and John Brandt of Ames; three sisters, Mrs. John Kallenbach, Hooper, Mrs. Kate Janssen of Fremont and Mrs. Henry Mitchell of Oregon, one step brother: Rev. John Jensen of Ashland, Ill, and by 26 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon with short services at 1:30 at the home and at 2 o'clock from the Grace Lutheran church of which he had been a faithful member, with the pastor, Rev. W. H. Moeller in charge. Interment will be made in the Hooper Cemetery.
