Tidence Lane (born 1724 Baltimore Co., MD, died 30 Jan 1806 in TN) and his wife, Hester (Van Bibber) Lane (1727-1805). James Bruce b. 1760, d. 1871; Isaac Bradley; Aquilla Q. Bradley; Tidence Bradley; John Bradley; Elizabeth [Betsey] (Bradley) Benson; and Abraham Bradley, Jr. NOTE: Abraham Bradley, Sr.'s Greenville District, South Caroline will was probated on 17 Nov 1823 and mentions his children, Issac Bradley, Judy Bradley, George Bradley and his wife, Judy, Betsy [Betty] (Bradley) Benson and Aquilla Q. Bradley (Executor) (See attached transcription of Abraham Bradley's (1723-1823) will). The 1820 US Census of Greenville, South Caroline enumerated an Isaac Bradley whose age, 35, fell within the proper range of 26-44 on the census. The 1830 US Census of Greenville, South Carolina enumerated an Isaac Bradley whose age, 45 Y/O, also fell within the proper range 40-49 on the census. Interestingly, several Bradley households were enumerated close to Isaac's. The one next door was Sarah Bradley labeled "Wid" (widow) whose age fell within the range 80-90 on the census. I strongly suspect that she was Isaac's mother, Sarah Elizabeth (Lane) Bradley, and the widow of Abraham Bradley, Sr. (1737-1823). Progressively enumerated, starting next door to Sarah E. (Lane) Bradley's residence was the home of Tidence Bradley, age range 50-60 on the census, who probably was another of Sarah Elizabeth (Lane) Bradley's sons (see first paragraph above). The next two near-by Bradley households were Perry Bradley, age range 20-30 (probably close kin) and Judeah (Judy) Bradley, a female, labeled "Wid" (widow) in the age range of 30-40. Judy was probably the widow of George Bradley, both of whom were mentioned in Abraham Bradley, Sr.'s 1823 will. The 1840 US Census of Greenville, South Carolina enumerated an Isaac Bradley whose age, 55 Y/O, fell within the range 50-60 on the census. Still living next door to Isaac was the widow, Judeah (Judy) Bradley, and her family. Her age fell within the 50-59 years range. Many Bradley families lived close-by including a 60-70 Y/O Mary Bradley, a Perry Bradley and 4 others whom are probably kin but presently I can't connect to Isaac. Isaac Bradley died intestate but the record of his 23 Feb 1848 Greenville District, South Carolina estate sale is extant. His wife, Sarah (Armstrong) Bradley, was co-administrator. Isaac's daughter, Harriett Bradley, and his widow, Sarah, were among the many people who purchased items from the estate. The estate record stated all of Isaac's children were of age except one, Harriett. A John Benson also bought items from the estate sale. I believe he was the husband of Isaac's sister, Betsy (Betty) Benson, mentioned in Abraham Bradley, Sr.'s 1823 will. The final tally for the estate sale of Isaac Bradley was $2781.94. Harriett Bradley received $190.32 as her share. John Pleasant Shockley signed the estate sale as a clerk. The 1850 US Census of Greenville, South Carolina enumerated the household of the 58 Y/O widow, Sarah (Armstrong) Bradley, born in South Carolina. Also living in the household was 18 Y/O Harriett Bradley, the daughter of Sarah and her deceased husband, Isaac Bradley. Significantly, enumerated in the 1850 household next door was 31 Y/O John Pleasant Shockley and his 34 Y/O wife, Sarah (Bradley) Shockley. Also living in the household were their children: 7 Y/O Mary Jane Shockley; 6 Y/O Elvira Shockley; 3 Y/O William Shockley, and 1 Y/O Thomas Shockley. Note: Sarah (Bradley) Shockley was the daughter of Isaac and Sarah (Armstrong) Bradley. The intermarriages of the Bradleys, Turners and Shockleys of Greenville, S. C. and Alabama is further enhanced by the marriage of Sarah Bradley, daughter of Isaac and Sarah (Armstrong) Bradley, to John Pleasant Shockley. Sarah (Bradley) Shockley was the sister of Marshall Ayers Bradley, who married Lourinda Turner Bradley of Etowah Co., AL. Lourinda's mother, Pricilla Bradley Turner, my second great grandmother, maiden name was thought to be Bradley for decades in the genealogical literature and DNA has recently confirmed it. Her complex relationship to the Bradleys, Turners and Shockleys of Alabama and South Caroline is discussed on her memorial. The 31 Jul 1850 Greenville, Greenville Co., S.C. United States Agricultural Census enumerated both Sarah (Armstrong) Bradley and Pleasant Shockley owning land very close to each other. John Pleasant Shockley died in June 1856 at Greenville, S.C. at the age of 36 Y/O. The 1860 US Census of White Horse, Greenville Co., South Carolina enumerated the household of his (44 Y/O) widow, Sarah (Bradley) Shockley. Also living in the household were her children: 16 Y/O Mary Jane Shockley; 14 Y/O Elvira Shockley; 12 Y/O William Shockley; 10 Y/O Thomas Shockley; 9 Y/O John Shockley; 8 Y/O Elizabeth Shockley, and 6 Y/O Weldon Shockley. The 1880 US Census of Paris Mountain, Greenville, S.C. enumerated the household of the 64 Y/O widow, Sarah (Bradley) Shockley. Also living in the household were her children: 26 Y/O Elvira Shockley; 25 Y/O William Shockley; 22 Y/O Dorothy Shockley, and 20 Y/O John Shockley. The 1900 US Census of Paris Mountain, Greenville, S.C. enumerated the household of the 84 Y/O widow, Sarah (Bradley) Shockley (born January 1816 in S.C.). Living in her household were her children: 53 Y/O Elvira Shockley; 51 Y/O William Shockley, and 44 Y/O Dorothy Shockley.
