Description	:	Isaac Brown was the son of Thomas Brown and his wife Elizabeth P. Bates (per his second marriage certificate, and his death certificate). ----------------------------- Isaac was married twice: (both wifes named "Sarah E."). --------------- m. # 1. In 1859, in Berrien County Michigan, to Sarah Ellen Hunniker (sometimes spelled "Honniker"), the daughter of Francis ("Frank") Hunniker Sr. and his wife Julia Ann Frame. ------------------------------- Isaac and his first wife Sarah E. Hunniker had two children: 1. Frank E. Brown, born about 1861. 2. Hattie H. Brown, born about 1866. Hattie was married to William Clinton Havener, in 1884. Sarah Ellen's short obituary was published in the "Buchanan Record" newspaper on Nov. 7, 1889, page 3. --------------------------------- m. # 2. On March (3 or 6), 1891, to Mrs. Sarah Ellen (Lister) Harris. Her maiden name was Sarah Ellen Lister, the daughter of John W. R. Lister and his wife Luama McCoy. -------------------------------- Note: Both wives named "Sarah E.". --------------------------------- Note: Marriage records show that after Isaac's death, Sarah A. (Lister) Brown, was then remarried (for the third time), on Jan. 8, 1907, in Three Oaks, Berrien County Michigan, to Leroy Bronson (she was his 2nd wife). His father - Reswell Bronson. His mother - Jones. --- Sarah (Lister) was born in 1850, and Sarah died in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1910 (per cemetery records). She is buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, with her third husband Leroy Sunderland Bronson (Section D, Lot 14). ---------------------------------- Isaac Brown was a well known carpenter and builder in Buchanan, Michigan. The 1899 Directory of Berrien County Michigan, states the following for Buchanan, MI - Contractors and Builders: Brown, Isaac, contractor and builder, 104 Front Street. -------------------------------- Isaac lived at 104 Front Street, in Buchanan, Michigan, but he died at the home of his step-daughter on Portage Street, in Buchanan, Michigan. ----------------------------------- Isaac Brown is listed as a "carpenter" in Buchanan, Berrien County Michigan, in the "Michigan State Gazetteer and Business Directory". ------------------------------- The obituary for Isaac Brown was published in the "Buchanan Record" newspaper in Buchanan, MI., on Oct. 31, 1901, page 4. It reads as follows: --------------------- SUDDEN DEATH. Mr. Isaac Brown Stricken with Heart Disease. Saturday evening Mr. Isaac Brown a well known carpenter and builder was down town as unual, called at his accustomed places and seemed feel- ing unusally well. About half past nine he went to the home of Mr. H. G. Wagner on Portage street, where his [second] wife was assisting her daughter, Mrs. Wagner get her house settled as they recently moved to town. Mr. and Mrs. Wagner and Mr. and Mrs. Brown had planned to go down to the farm the next day and were to make an early start from Mr. Wagner's house so Mr. and Mrs. Brown were to remain all night at the house. About ten o'clock all had retired, and Mrs. Brown hearding [hearing] Mr. Brown utter a peculiar gasping sound, immediately aroused the household, and summoned Dr. Peck but when he arrived Mr. Brown was dead, and in Dr. Peck's opinion was dead when he was called. The cause of death was undoubtedly heart failure. The deceased was born at Akron, Ohio, on May 26, 1836, and died October 26, 1901. He removed to Buchanan when about 19 years old, and in 1859 was married to Miss Sarah Honniker [Miss Sarah Ellen Hunniker], of which union were born two children, a son, Mr. Frank Brown, and a daughter Hattie, who died in 1887. Mrs. [Sarah Ellen] Brown died November 7, 1889 [her obit says Nov. 6], and on March 6, 1891 he married Mrs. Sarah E. Harris who survives him. The funeral services were held from his late residence on Front Street Thursday morning at 10:00 o'clock, Elder E. R. Black officiating. Interment was made at Oak Ridge cemetery. -------------------------------- Isaac's death certificate states that he was the son of Thomas Brown and his wife Elizabeth Bates. That he was a carpenter, and that he died of sudden heart failure. That he was the father of two children, one still living (in 1901). It also states that he died at the age of 65 years, and 5 months, and his burial site is listed as "Buchanan". The informant is listed as (his second wife), "Sara" E. Brown. Sarah E. (Hunniker) Brown. 2. Mrs. Sarah E. (Lister) Harris - Brown. --------------------------------- Note: Isaac's mother Elizabeth P. (Bates) Brown (1800-1873), and his brother Deloss Brown (1832-1865), are also buried in the Oak Ridge Cemetery (in Section 20, Lot 46). -----------------------------
