Description	:	Cause of Death: Malaria Left IN after marrying out of the Quaker Church. He was publicly read out of the church for marrying Mary Jane Turner, a Presbyterian. He was very hurt and angry and left IN and came West by sailing ship from the east coast. I understand that Mary Jane was a terrible sailor and was horribly seasick so they debarked at Panama (this was before the canal was built) and they took a little donkey drawn train across planning to pick up the ship on the other side after it came around the horn. The ship ran into a dreadful storm off the Cape of Good Hope and sank with all aboard going down with the ship. So Isaac and Mary Jane made their way to McMinneville, OR and from there to Goldendale, WA. [Doris Compton] Information contributed by: Tiffany Nash Mr. Isaac Compton who was for nineteen years a resident of this county passed away from the earthly life and his worn out body, on the twenty sixth of last month from his son's home near Wenatchee. Mr. Compton was born seventy years ago in Marion county, Indiana, and was brought up a strict Quaker. In June of '58 he was married to Miss Mary J. Turner. The year following their marriage the young people moved to Oregon, where they spent several years near Silverton. From there, they moved to Puyallup but disliking the damp winters of the Sound country they came to this county in '78. They took a homestead seven miles east of Goldendale and two years thereafter entered the Christian Church of this place and have been consistent members of it ever since. In '92 Mr. Compton sold his ranch and moved into town for the greater church and social privleges but his failing health rendered it advisable to try a change of climate in the fall of last year. He spent the winter at Zillah and was ill all the time, but as soon as he went to Ellensburg in the spring his health improved. In June he went to Wenatchee and continued well, until he was attacked by malarial fever, three weeks before his death. He has left a wife and three children to grieve for him, who have the sympathy of a host of friends.
