Description	:	Civil War Soldier Private, Co. C, 18th Massachusetts Infantry The son of Benjamin F. and Lydia (Dunham) Harlow, and twin brother of Simeon Harlow, Co. C, 18th Mass. Infantry. His additional siblings included Irene, born ca. 1835; Fidelia, born ca. 1839; Harriet Kneeland, born Feb. 10, 1846; Benjamin Frederic, born Mar. 14, 1849; and Andrew Boutwell, born Nov. 10, 1851. C, 18th Mass. Infantry. His additional siblings included Irene, born ca. 1835; Fidelia, born ca. 1839; Harriet Kneeland, born Feb. 10, 1846; Benjamin Frederic, born Mar. 14, 1849; and Andrew Boutwell, born Nov. 10, 1851. Isaac was a 19 year-old Carpenter from Middleboro, MA, when he enlisted at Carver, MA on Sept. 17, 1861, being recruited by Capt. William S. McFarlin, and was mustered into the 18th Mass. Infantry on Jan. 14, 1862 as a Private in Co. C. Harlow died after three days of illness of Typhoid Fever at Hall's Hill, VA on Saturday, March 1, 1862 at 8 p.m. His body was embalmed and escorted back to South Carver, MA by nine members of Co. C, and Harlow was buried on March 7, 1862 at Union Cemetery, South Carver. Harlow was described as a exemplary soldier and devout Christian. The father, Benjamin Harlow, died of a paralytic shock on June 13, 1874. Isaac's mother Lydia applied for a pension on Feb. 4, 1884 and was granted benefits of $8 per month under Certificate #: 255864, as the Dependent Mother of Isaac. Lydia Harlow died at Carver, MA on Jan. 9, 1891. Middleboro Gazette and Old Colony Adveritiser, Saturday, March 8, 1862 The Death of Isaac Harlow We are pained to record the death of one of the twin Harlows – Isaac – of this town. He was greatly loved and esteemed for his consistent Christian deportment. His age was 19 years. Our army oorrespondent says: "Since writing my last, we, as a company have met with a sad loss. On Saturday, at 8 o'clock P.M., Isaac Harlow died of typhoid fever after an illness of but three days. His loss is deeply felt by us all, and we unite in offering feelings of condolence to his parents and the friends in general. He was one of our attendants at the weekly meetings, and little did I think when I saw him last there that he would be so soon called to his Heavenly home. We have him a military funeral. His remains were sent home to his friends, escorted by eight men and a corporal, as follows: Corp. J.H. Graham, Privates P.B. Harman, Watson N. Smith, George H. Swift, J.M. Maxim, MG. Shurtleff, G.B. Thomas, E.J. Wrightington, J.S. Atwood. With drums muffled, arms reversed and flags at half-mast, a salute of three volleys was fired above his remains, which termanted the ceremony. Peace to his memory!"
