Description	:	Civil War Veteran Private, Co. C, 18th Massachusetts Infantry Simeon Harlow was the son of Benjamin F. and Lydia (Dunham) Harlow and the twin brother of Isaac Harlow of Co. C, 18th Mass. Infantry. His additional siblings included Irene, born ca. 1835; Fidelia, born ca. 1839; Harriet Kneeland, born Feb. 10, 1846; Benjamin Frederic, born Mar. 14, 1849; and Andrew Boutwell, born Nov. 10, 1851. C, 18th Massachusetts Infantry Simeon Harlow was the son of Benjamin F. and Lydia (Dunham) Harlow and the twin brother of Isaac Harlow of Co. C, 18th Mass. Infantry. His additional siblings included Irene, born ca. 1835; Fidelia, born ca. 1839; Harriet Kneeland, born Feb. 10, 1846; Benjamin Frederic, born Mar. 14, 1849; and Andrew Boutwell, born Nov. 10, 1851. Simeon was a 19 year-old Carpenter from Middleboro, MA, when he enlisted at Carver on Sept. 17, 1861, being recruited by Capt. William S. McFarlin, and was mustered into the 18th Mass. Infantry on Jan. 14, 1862 as a Private in Co. C. Harlow was absent from the Regiment from March 28, 1862, when he contracted Typhoid Fever and was sent to the General Hospital, Ft. Monroe, VA, was subsequently transferred to Eckington Hospital, Washington, DC, and then to the Covalescent Camp, Alexandria, VA, before returning to duty in the middle of February 1863. He was again absent due to illness from June 13, 1863, when he was sent to King St. Hospital, Alexandria, due to swelling in his right knee. He was granted a furlough home on Nov. 19, 1863 and remained there until the the date of his discharge. He was discharged due to disability, caused by disease of the knee joint, at Boston, MA on Jan. 27, 1864. Following his military service Simeon resided at Middleboro, where he worked as a Carpenter. He married Lucy Allen Griffeth, the daughter of Ephraim and Saphronia (Briggs) at Plymouth, MA on Nov. 28, 1868. Simeon and Lucy were the parents of Lucy, born and died 1870; Isaac C., born July 10, 1872; Annie M., 1873 to 1895; Simeon E., born Oct. 5, 1876; Lucy A., born April 8, 1878; Mildred V., born Feb. 14, 1882; Franklin S., born Sept. 1, 1883; and Henry M., 1888-89. Simeon joined the E.W. Peirce, G.A.R. Post No. 8, Middleboro on May 13, 1871, but held no offices and was also a member of the Advent Church, helping to raise funds for the church building which stood on Centre St., Middleboro. His wife Lucy died on November 13, 1897. Simeon was 70 years of age when he died of heart failure at his home located at 92 Oak St., Middleboro.
