Dauron Passed Away** Our people were shocked Monday when the word was passed around that "Uncle Ike" Dauron had suddenly died. On Decoration Day the Dauron family was expecting some folks in for the day, and "Uncle Ike" said he would get up the team and plow around the garden before they got there. But while at the barn he became sick and went back to the house about 8 o'clock and Dr. A.D. Hays was called, and within less than an hour he had passed away. He was born January 26th, 1860, in Macon county, Illinois, and died at the home west of Cherokee, Kansas, on May 30th, 1927, aged 67 years, 4 months and 4 days. When but a lad he moved to Kansas with his parents, and for more than 50 years has been a familiar figure in our vicinity. He was married October 1, 1884, to Miss Frances Cook. To this union was born one son, George Dauron, who now lives in Los Angeles, Calif., but who is able to be here for the funeral which is to be held this afternoon at 2:30 at the home by Rev. Babb of Girard, and interment will be made in the Cherokee cemetery. "Uncle Ike" Dauron and his good wife "Aunt Pete" Dauron as they were lovingly known to their many friends in this community, were especial good friends of the Sentinel. We could always depend on them and it was a great shock to us when we heard of "Uncle Ike's" passing, and we extend our heartfelt sympathy to "Aunt Pete" and George, and only wish that there was some way for us to relieve them of some of their great sorrow. Death has us all puzzled. Why some who are so worthy and so worthwhile to the whole community are stricken, while others who are so selfish as to be worthless are spared, we cannot understand. But perhaps it is better that we do not understand. We do know that the whole community has suffered a great loss in the passing of "Uncle Ike" Dauron, and we have heard many persons express themselves. Mr. Dauron was a big man, big in many ways. Over six feet high, yet as happy a disposition as a five footer. Big mentally and physically. While he had been sick much and had suffered at times, he never looked sick on account of his immense size, and his uncomplaining manner left those who were not intimately acquainted with him into the belief that he was in much better physical condition than he really was. The Daurons were great folks to remember their friends. And when birthdays, etc., came along you could depend upon them remembering their neighbors in some manner. We know just how he will be missed by everyone in his neighborhood, and his friends in town shall miss him too. He never hurried but always got there just the same, and many were the times we have stopped to have just a few minutes talk with him, and he always had some real news for us, and you know that is what a newspaper man likes –someone who can help him pass along the news of the community. We shall miss "Uncle Ike." Besides his widow and son, he leaves three brothers, J.I. Dauron who lives in Cherokee, and Will and Frank who live in New Mexico. They could not get here for the funeral as Will is sick and Frank is looking after him. Contributed by Cheryl White
