Cross, one of the best known and most highly esteemed pioneer residents of the city and county at his home on Ringgold Street in the Fifth ward that morning. Death was due to heart failure. He had been chopping wood in the yard and had brought an armful to the house. He then sat down in a chair and expired without warning. Isaac Neff Cross was born in Green County, Pennsylvania, Sept., 4, 1827, and died at his home in Boone Iowa, May 15, 1907, aged 79 years, 8 months and 9 days. His mother died when he was six months old and he was taken by his grandmother who cared for him until he was fourteen years of age. He then started out in life for himself among strangers. He came to Boone County in 1852 and for a number of years was engaged in farming near Madrid. On the 28th of June, 1857, he was united in marriage to Miss Mariah E. Keigley, who died in this city April 17, 1899. To them were born two children, Arabell C., wife of H. L. Davis of Boone and Sarah E., wife of R. E. McMillan of Indianapolis Iowa. In October 1900, he was again married to Mrs. Abbie Hitsman, who with his two children survive to mourn his death. Township. For a number of years he was sexton of Linwood cemetery, but of late years had lived quietly at his home in the Fifth ward, enjoying the fruits of a well spent life. Mr. Cross was a man of noble character and strict integrity of purpose and commanded the highest esteem and confidence of all with whom he came in contact during his long and useful life. He was a wide reader and unusually well informed and the writer had spent many pleasant hours conversing with him in our office. We will sorely miss his words of wisdom and kindly genial presence. The funeral services will be held this Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the home and at 2:00 o'clock from the Gospel Tabernacle, conducted by the Rev. J.C. Crawford, and the remains will be laid to rest in Linwood cemetery. Boone County Democrat May 17, 1907
