Penner, son of Isaac T. and Tina (Wohlgemuth) Penner, was born Sept. 13, 1902, at Clearspring, Manitoba, Canada, and departed from this life Sept. 15, 1969, reaching the age of 67 years and 2 days. His end came unexpectedly, for reasons not fully known, while driving a truck about a mile from home. When but 2 years of age, Isaac lost his mother. Later father remarried and the home was again blest with a mother, who tenderly taught and cared for him in his youth. At the age of 13, in the year 1915, he with his parents moved to Lubbock, Texas. Here he continued his education, attending school only when he could be spared at home. On the plains he met with hardships of pioneering. Being the eldest son he accepted the responsibilities of helping his parents establish their new home. When 17 years old, he was convicted of his unsaved condition. Yielding to the call of God, he repented and received forgiveness of his sins. Upon the confession of his faith and peace with God, he was baptized by the late Minister Abraham G. Ensz, and became a member of the Church of God in Christ Mennonite, where he remained faithful, until the Lord called him home. In 1922, due to a deep spiritual concern for the welfare of their children, his parents and family moved to Inman, Kansas. On June 1, 1930 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Mary Ensz of Inman, Kansas, where they established their home, sharing life's joys and sorrows for over 39 years. This union was blest with one daughter and two sons. When our daughter, Irene, was 2 years old, it pleased God best to take her home to Him. Father was an industrious farmer all his life, providing well for the material needs of his family. He was also interested in his neighbors having a kind and considerate nature, delighted in being friendly to all he met. Due to limited farming possibilities, his sons became interested in South Dakota, also establishing their homes here. Wanting to remain close to our family, we decided to join our sons, moving to Osceola, S. Dak. in 1965, and establishing our home here. Father enjoyed good health until the last several years, when he became aware of complications, for which he sought medical aid, and was under doctor's care. His physical condition caused him to become somewhat inactive, but taking advantage of this time, he enjoyed visiting, and helping in several church missions for short periods of time. Father had a deep spiritual concern for his children and grandchildren, encouraging them to serve the Lord. His concern also reached out to his beloved church, often leaving a testimony for the Lord. Though God took him from us suddenly and no farewell words spoken, yet we believe that by the manner of life that he lived, he had left us a living assurance that he is peacefully resting under the altar of God. He leaves his sorrowing wife, Mary; two sons: Clarence, and wife Betty; Abe and wife Clarebell; seven grandchildren all of Iroquois, S. Dak.; three brothers: Henry W. Penner, Hillsboro, Kansas; David N. Penner, Inman, Kansas; John N. Penner, Rio Verde, Brazil; three sisters: Lena, Mrs. John A. Ensz, Inman, Kansas; Katherine, Mrs. John P. Dueck, St Anne, Manitoba, Canada; Matilda, Mrs. Wilbert Ensz, Inman, Kansas; also nieces and nephews and many relatives. Preceding him in death are his parents and one daughter, Irene. Husband, Father, you have gone, You have left us here alone, Broken hearted, crushed with grief; Your time with us was far too brief. You bade no one a last farewell, You said "good-bye" to none. The heavenly Gates were open, And a gentle voice said, "Come." Death has taken our loved one We cannot understand Why He chose to take him from us One who had such willing hands. It makes our hearts so sad and lonely, When we see the vacant chair. But we know he's gone to Heaven And is waiting for us there. Dear Dad, How we'll miss you, Your disposition so quiet and kind, Yet firm in the things you knew to be right You served with heart and mind. Funeral services were held at Faith Mennonite Church, Iroquois, S. Dak. Sept. 18, 1969. Min. Sylvester Unruh bringing remarks and prayer. Min. Abe Toews, Inman, Kansas brought the message from Psa. 8:4; Job 14: 1, 2, 10, 11, 12; Psa. 23:1; Rev. 7:13, 14 and Rev. 14:3. Interment was made in the Faith Cemetery, with Min. John Isaac, Rosenort, Man. in charge.
