Her father died in Wisconsin in 1849, her mother in 1879 in Iowa. She was united in marriage to Thos. Burnett in Sauk Co., Wisconsin when she was 18 years of age. They moved to Jackson Co., Iowa from there to Story Co., Iowa, and thence to Van Buren Co. 1869 and has lived here since. Eight children were bore of this union: Mary E. Palmer of Aledo, Ill., Alexander of Shelbyville, Mo., Melissa C. Brown of Bonaparte, Isabel A. who died at the age of 2 years, Robert Grant U., Thos. O. and Zach. V., of Bonaparte. There are 12 living grandchildren and 1 great grand child. Her husband died October 11, 1887. She was converted under the ministry of Rev. Jonathan Lee thus uniting with the old Bethel Church. When Bethel disbanded, Sister Burnett with four of her children transferred their membership to Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Bonaparte, in the fall of 1899, of which she was a consistent, honored, loved member till her death. Her illness of 5 weeks duration was marked by patience, she wanted to live, has looked forward in pleasure to her sojourn in her village home, much enjoyed her brief stay here with us. Yet she was willing to abide the masters will, expressed herself as ready to go. It was thought she was convalescing [sic]. Her son Robert left his mother Friday morning for his work at the farm, cheered by the thought she was getting better, sitting up in bed during the night to take her medicine, also to partake of her breakfast, seemed to be brighter, but a sudden turn for the worse, and the heart that beat with love for relatives and friends, suddenly ceased to vibrate. She died at 8:10 Friday morning, with only her daughter Mrs. Palmer, the immediate neighbors present. Funeral services at Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at 2 P. M. services conducted by J. A. Ayrault. A large number were in attendance. Interment [sic] in White cemetery to which the funeral cortege wended its way. A long line of teams were in the procession. A large number of former neighbors and acquaintances were found waiting at the cemetery who were permitted to view the remains, after which the body was deposited in its last resting place till that time when the dead in Christ shall rise.
