Ivan at first contracted the tonsilitis and on Tuesday of last week was not able to return to his studies in the school room but his condition was not regarded as serious until Sunday when it was found that pneumonia had developed and he was immediately rushed to the Sells and Stroy hospital. Everything possible was done to save the life of this fine young man but to no avail. He is survived by his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank [Ida Wiant] Chamberlain and half-brother, little Francis Chamberlain who reside in Ward Township and his grandparents, Deputy Sheriff and Mrs. S. A. Lane[Stephen Azro Lane and Nancy Augusta Harris], 109 West Garfield Street. While in school he made his home with his grandparents and out of school hours was employed as a clerk at the A & P grocery. He took a deep interest in his school work and ranked high in his studies. The first two years he was in high school he was neither absent nor tardy. Funeral serviced will be held from the Christian church today at 2 PM, conducted by Rev. J.W. McKee and interment will be made in Union Chapel cemetery. ..... Ivan was born near Osceola, Iowa, February 21, 1911, spending his entire life among his early aquaintances and associates. On October 30, 1918 his mother, released from the responsibilities of life, closed her eyes to all things earthly, leaving her boy, Ivan without a mother's love and care. From this time he made his home with his grandparents, continuing his school duties from their home where every thing that love could devise was bestowed upon him. He had attained unto his Junior year in Osceola high school. All of his school work being done here with the exception of a year and a half spent in the public schools of Mt. Pleasant. Ivan was possessed of a genial disposition and was much loved by his school mates and all others who knew him, but his days among us were few. On January 15th, a physician was called who treated him for tonsilitis, but on Sunday, January 20 it was found that he had contracted pneumonia and was rushed to the Osceola hospital where he passed away Tuesday afterrnoon at 2:45 o'clock, at the early age of 17 years, 11 months and 1 day. He leaves behind to mourn him his father and step-mother and one half-brother, Francis of whom he was very fond, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Azro Lane with whom he had made his home since his mother's death, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Church of Christ Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock by paster, John W. McKee. Music was furnished by a chorus selected from his fellow Juniors in school, with Truth Bumbarger at the piano. Interment was made in Union Chapel. Osceola Sentinel-Tribune
