Following school he went to work at Elwood and Elwood Farm. He then was drafted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Woods was born Sunday, June 23, 1929 in Williamsburg; Iowa County, Iowa. He was the son of: Darrell and Mabel Smith Woods. Following school he went to work at Elwood and Elwood Farm. He then was drafted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he worked at Amana Refrigeration for over 20 years. On February 27, 1959 Ivan was united in marriage to Leona Short in Delta and she died November 30, 1977. He then worked at William Penn College in Oskaloosa as a night watchman, retiring from there in 1978. Ivan loved fishing, hunting, trapping, mushroom hunting, and gardening. He was especially proud of his tomatoes. Ivan L. Woods, age: 83, passed away on Wednesday; December 19, 2012 in Oskaloosa; Mahaska County, Iowa. Those left to mourn his passing are: His daughters: Brenda (Michael) Thomas of South English; Keokuk County, Iowa and Denise Van Dee of Delta; Keokuk County, Iowa. His five grandchildren and his ten great grandchildren. His brother: Marvin Woods of Millersburg; Iowa County, Iowa. Last but not least, his sister: Carolyn (Jerry) Ridenour of Marion; Linn County, Iowa. Ivan was preceded in death by his wife; his parents and two sisters: Dorla Blair and Rita Neiderhisar; a brother-in-law: George Neiderhisar. May they rest in peace. May God bless his memory and give strength to those that mourn. Visitation will be from: 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday; December 21, 2012 at the Fremont Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will begin at: 10:30 a.m. on Saturday; December 22, 2012 at the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, Iowa with Pastor Henry Goetz officiating. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W. Interment will be at the Garrett Cemetery; Keokuk County, Iowa. For those desiring, memorial contributions in Ivan's honor may be made to: The Delta Methodist Church.
