Description	:	Jacob Elvin "Judd" 87, died September 11 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston. He was born on September 18, 1904 the son of Jacob S. Wells and Jennie Cavender Wells on a farm south of New Market. He attended Lone Star School and the Siam Methodist Church. On February 10, 1926 he was united in marriage to Betty Penwell. They lived on the farm for five years and then moved to Villisca where he was employed on highway construction and in 1933 they moved back to the farm where they spent the rest of their life. Mrs... Read More	Jacob Elvin "Judd" 87, died September 11 at Greater Community Hospital in Creston. He was born on September 18, 1904 the son of Jacob S. Wells and Jennie Cavender Wells on a farm south of New Market. He attended Lone Star School and the Siam Methodist Church. On February 10, 1926 he was united in marriage to Betty Penwell. They lived on the farm for five years and then moved to Villisca where he was employed on highway construction and in 1933 they moved back to the farm where they spent the rest of their life. Mrs Wells passed away on November 11, 1967. He was also an auctioneer for 60 years being associated with his brother Ivan for many years. He moved to Bedford after retiring in 1971 and was united in marriage to Berniece Bennett on March 29, 1975. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ray and Ivan and sisters, Mae Holland, Anna Scott and Gladys Wells and two brothers who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife, Berniece two step sons, Marvin Peyton of Fayetteville, Ark; and Loren Peyton of Sacramento, Ca; a nephew Lowell Scott of Bedford; and a niece, Jean Wells, Park of Tustin, Ca; among other relatives and friends. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and was granted the distinguished service award in 1990 by the Bedford church; a member of Bedford Lodge #91 I.O.O.F. and served as Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of Iowa in 1980 I.O.O.F. and a member of the Encampment and Canonat, Clarinda. He was also a member of Rebekah Lodge #134 in Bedford, and also held offices of many of these lodges throughout the years. Mr Wells served as Township Trustee of Mason Township for 34 years and also served as President of the New Market Telephone Exchange. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 15, at 10 am at the Novinger-Taylor Funeral Home in Bedford with interment in the Memory Cemetery in New Market. Services were conducted by Rev Steve Peters and Rev Carl Cummings. Oddfellow service conducted by Bedford Lodge #91 given at the Funeral Home. CLARNDA HERALD JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Sep 17, 1992
