He was pronounced dead at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster, Sunday, February 24, at 3 p.m. from a heart attack. He was born at Carrollton, the son of the late J. Edward and Eurith R. Abbott Evans. He was a retired merchant, having been in business on East Main Street, Westminster, under the name of Evans Brothers General Store, for many years. Irvin Evans, 74, of 10 Milton Avenue, Westminster. He was pronounced dead at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster, Sunday, February 24, at 3 p.m. from a heart attack. He was born at Carrollton, the son of the late J. Edward and Eurith R. Abbott Evans. He was a retired merchant, having been in business on East Main Street, Westminster, under the name of Evans Brothers General Store, for many years. He was a member of the Clearfield Bible Church, near Westminster. Earlier in the day, on Sunday, he had taught the Men's Bible Class and he sang in the choir of the church. He was a life-elder of the church and a member of the Gideon's International Westminster Camp. Surviving him are his wife, Elizabeth Hendricks Evans and a son and a daughter, James I. Evans, Jr., Claymount, Delaware and Mrs. Nancy L. Jennings, Finksburg. Also two brothers and two sisters: Emory T. Evans, Mrs. Hilda I. Magee, both of Westminster; Walter S. Evans, Carrollton, and Mrs. Gladys Menchey, Reisterstown. Three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield Bible Church. The church pastor, the Rev. Douglas W. Baker, officiated, and burial was in Carrollton Church Cemetery, Bethel Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clearfield Bible Church. The following served as pallbearers: George Rill, Aubrey Schultz, Ross Menchey, Charles Magee, David Jennings and Richard Jennings. Carroll County Times 28 Feb 1974
