He was born Dec. 21, 1921, in Thornville, to the late George and Elizabeth (Kennedy) Welsh. Mr. Welsh was the former owner of the Newark Fruit Market. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Newark Eagles and AARP. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean E. (Hall) Welsh; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark Allen and Carol Welsh, and Daniel George and Lori Welsh, all of Newark; daughters and son-in-law, Maggie and Norman Shepler, and Jackie Frazier, all of Newark; grandchildren, Chaska and Asa Welsh, Wesley, Matthew and Seth Shepler, and Dallas and Clayton Frazier; great-grandson, Levi Shepler; sisters, Eleanor Null and Grace Trimble, both of Newark; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Corey Prouty; and by nine brothers and sisters. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home, 59 N.
