Description	:	son of Lyall E. and LaVon Brown U.S. Air Force veteran Jack Lyall Brown was born Jan. 24, 1947, to Lyall E. and LaVon Brown in Independence. He died June 3, 2013, in Puyallup, Wash. He graduated with the Jesup High School class of 1965. As a youth Jack worked in the Brown Implement business in Jesup. Jack earned his B.A. in Industrial Arts at the University of Northern Iowa in 1969. He was a member of the United States Air Force, and was stationed in Saigon and at McChord AFB. Following his time in the Air Force, Jack worked briefly at Urban Inc. and then at U.S. Oil and Refining Co. for almost 30 years as the New Construction Manager and Maintenance Coordinator. He was involved in the Tacoma Mountaineers, earning his Six Peaks pin and helping to teach cross country skiing classes. He spent many years involved with youth soccer and baseball in Pierce County. Jack was a WSU Cougar fan and loved to travel by land and sea. Jack is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Kay, as well as his son Jason, daughter-in-law Shannon, and granddaughter Katie (of Spokane). He is also survived by his mother LaVon Brown and three sisters, Brenda Peterson, Lou Ann Keigley and Barb Sailsbury, all from Ames. He leaves behind many brothers- and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Tahoma National Cemetery. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at the Mountaineers Tacoma Program Center (2302 N. 30th St., Tacoma, WA 98403) on June 13, starting at 6 p.m.
