Description	:	Powers Funeral Home Jack Wendell Rusk, 91, of Afton, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Afton Care Center. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Afton at a later date. Open visitation with the family receiving friends will be 1- 3 p. m. Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge in Afton. Dodge in Afton. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Jack's name. Jack W. Rusk was born at home in Afton on July 17, 1925, to True and Tillie (Hawkins) Rusk. Graduating in 1943 from Afton High School, Jack attended all of his school years in Afton. Jack held a variety of jobs after high school including working at the Ammunition Plant in Ankeny and as a brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad. In 1944-1945, True rented the lot that is now the current Casey's in Afton. Jack, True, and Jack's brother, Tom, ran Rusk Oil Company from that location until 1986 when Jack retired. On March 21, 1948, Jack married Carol Fleming in Greenfield, Iowa. They had one child, Richard Lynn Rusk, born in 1953. Jack was an active member of the "Coffee Club" in Afton and of Lakeshore Golf and Country Club. When 3 Mile Lake was constructed north of Afton, Jack enjoyed fishing. Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Sue Rusk of Afton; two grandchildren, Jessica (husband Andy) Zaugg of Ankeny, Iowa, Robb Rusk of Woodland, California; and three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Lauren, and Ethan Zaugg of Ankeny. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, his wife, Carol in 2008 and his son, Rick, in 2014.
