Description	:	Jackson Coolidge "Jack" Groves, age 84, of Petersburg, WV died Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Grant County Nursing Home. Mr. Groves was born on May 26, 1924 in Petersburg, WV and was the son of the late Harman F. Groves and Louie Katherine (Harman) Groves. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John H. Groves. Mr. Groves was a lifelong farmer and businessman. He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1942. Read More	Jackson Coolidge "Jack" Groves, age 84, of Petersburg, WV died Friday, September 5, 2008 at the Grant County Nursing Home. Mr. Groves was born on May 26, 1924 in Petersburg, WV and was the son of the late Harman F. Groves and Louie Katherine (Harman) Groves. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John H. Groves. Mr. Groves was a lifelong farmer and businessman. He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1942. On February 6, 1978 he was appointed to serve as Mayor of Petersburg to fill the unexpired term of his deceased brother, John Groves. He was elected to serve on the City Council from June 1979 to June 1987. He was a board member of the Uptowner Inns in West Virginia, Georgia and Florida and a board member of the Stonewall Jackson Life Insurance Company. He was a member of the National Farm Bureau Association for over 60 years. Mr. Groves was a member of the National Turkey Federation, where he testified before Congress. He was a lifetime member of the West Virginia Poultry Association and a member of the American Forestry Association. He was a member of the Petersburg Masonic Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M. and a member of the Grove Street United Methodist Church. SURVIVING: His wife, Mary Frances (Sherman) Groves Two sons, Harman Groves and wife Donna of Maysville, WV James C. Groves and wife Mitzi, of LaVale, MD One daughter, Karen Sue Sheppo and husband Michael of Silver Spring, MD Five grandchildren, Harman Frank Groves, III, Katherine Danielle (Sheppo) Pasieta, Mary Ann Groves, Matthew Michael Sheppo, and James Brian Groves One great grandson, Luke Anthony Pasieta Friends may call on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Schaeffer Funeral Home Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (Sept. 7th) at the Grove Street United Methodist Church with Rev. William R. Brown and Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating. Interment will be in the Lahmansville Cemetery, Lahmansville, WV, where a Masonic graveside service will be conducted by the Petersburg Masonic Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M.
