While in Oregon he married Bertha Bronkey in 1892 and they returned to Nebraska for a few years, later moving to Chico in 1925. Mrs. Ganow died in 1935. "Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Alice King, and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Grace Ganow of Chico, and numerous nephews and nieces. "Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Case-Timmons-Van Hook Funeral Chapel with burial in the Chico Cemetery." ~~~ Jacob A Ganow was born 8 December 1867 in Clark County, Missouri. He was the 2nd child of Mellow (or Mallow) Ganow and Susan Saphrona (Parke) Smith Ganow. Jacob was Susan's 4th child. Jacob's DOB in 1867 is taken from the 1900 census (Dec '67), most other records, and his grave marker. The death index from California indicates that his birth was 8 December 1866. Sometime between August, 1869 and June, 1870 the family moved to Larimer County, Colorado where Jacob was listed on the census as 2 (birth '67). He was listed there again with his family on the 1880 census in June as 13 (birth 1866). About 1882 the family moved to Nebraska and settled in the White Clay Creek area. About 1889 Jacob's younger brother William married. He was the first child to leave the household. It appears that shortly after that event a family photo was taken. The photo shows the remaining family with the five children standing behind their seated parents in a large prairie (hence the name photo on the prairie). About 1890 it appears that Jacob moved west to Oregon. Perhaps he was in search of some uncles who had gone to Oregon in the 1880s. In Marion County, Oregon he married Bertha G Bronkey on 24 May 1892. This is the only record of him in Oregon on that trip. On the 1900 census Jacob and Bertha were listed with Jake's parents in Cherry County, Nebraska. Jake's father died in 1905 and his mother died in 1913. He can't be found on the 1910 census. But in 1913 Jacob was listed in the city directory of Salem, Marion County, Oregon and on the tax roll of Woodburn, Oregon just outside of Salem. On 5 January 1920 Jacob and Bertha were listed on the census in Scollard, Marion County, Oregon. Jacob was also listed in the city directory of Chico, California. About 1925 Jacob and Bertha moved to Hueneme, Ventura County, California. They were listed on the city directory there between 1926 and 1931. They were also listed on the federal census in Hueneme in 1930. In 1933 Jacob was listed in the city directory of Chico, California. He lived in Chico from that time until his death on 15 July 1961 at the age of 93. Bertha (Bronkey) Ganow died in San Joaquin County on 17 July 1935.
