Severson Dies at Home Rites Saturday for Prominent Valley Springs Man, Ex-state Senator Jacob B. Severson, 83, former state senator from Minnehaha County, died suddenly at his farm home near Valley Springs this morning. Active in church and community affairs, Mr. Severson was treasurer of the Ben Clare Methodist Church and taught the young people's Bible Class. He was a member of the Valley Springs Township board for 44 years and served on the Valley Springs School Board. He was treasure of the Valley Springs Rural Telephone Company and a director of the Farmer's Mutual Insurance Company of Baltic. Mr. Severson was president of the Minnehaha Bank of Valley Springs for many years. A resident of Minnehaha County for 67 years, Mr. Severson served in the state Senate from 1925 until 1927. He was born in Norway July 23, 1870. He came to the United States in 1887 and settled on a farm 5 ½ miles southwest of Valley Springs. He had lived in that vicinity since that time. Funeral services, under the direction of the Miller Funeral Home, will be at the Ben Clare Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. C. D. Bullock officiating. Burial will be in Valley Springs. Survivors are his widow, the former Annie Johnson, to whom he would have been married 55 years March 16; a son, Harry, New York City; a daughter, Mrs. Philip B. Thoreson, Brandon; a brother, Ole, Hettinger, N.D., and a brother and sister in Norway. The body will lie in state at the funeral home until Saturday noon.
