Read More	AGED RESIDENT ANSWERS FINAL SUMMONS Jacob Beck, Sr., a highly respected citizen of this city passed away at his home on West Fourth Street last Wednesday, November 19, at the advanced age of 88 years. Pneumonia was the immediate cause of his death. Jacob Beck was born at Holstein, Germany, Oct. 1, 1825, and died in Spencer, Iowa, on Nov. 19, 1913. He was married to Miss Catherine Boll, in Holstein, Germany, and together they came to America in 1880 and located in Anchor IL. Nine children were born to this union. Jacob Beck of Riverton Township, Clay County IA, Mrs. C. F. Eggers of American Falls ID, and Henry Beck of Cumberland WI survive their father. His wife died on Christmas day in 1882. He afterwards married Mrs. Anna Sleeter of Anchor IL, and they came to Clay County about eight years ago where they have since made their home. He was a life-long member of the German Evangelical Church. He was a devoted husband, father, and a good friend and during his long life performed many good deeds and acts of kindness toward his fellow men. The funeral services were conducted from the home Saturday, Nov. 22. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer IA and Rev. E. Grummer officiated. Mr. Beck came to America in 1880 and located in Anchor IL. While living there his wife, whom he married in Germany, died on Christmas day 1882. He was later united in marriage to Mrs. Anna Sleeter. About six years ago they came to Spencer IA to make their home, and purchased property on West 4th Street. Mr. Beck was the father of nine children. The only one living here, we believe, being Jacob Beck Jr. of Riverton Township. The funeral services were held at the home Saturday, being conducted by Rev. Grummer, Pastor of the German Lutheran Church of which the deceased had been a long and consistent member, and the body was laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery in Spencer IA. Mr. Beck, while a stranger to most of our people, was highly spoken of by his neighbors, as a good Christian man, and honorable and upright in all of his dealings. He will be sadly missed by a large circle of friends.
