Description	:	Jacob C. Fry was 34, and living in Libertyville, Jefferson Co., Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private in Co. M of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on Nov 2, 1861. He was mustered into federal service on Nov 25, 1861, and appointed as a Musician in the regimental band. However, he was later mustered out of the 4th Iowa Cavalry on July 18, 1862, at St. Louis when the War Dept. issued orders discontinuing the regimental bands. He resigned from the service on April 15, 1864. Fry applied for his Civil War pension on July 24, 1889. His application is #835,800, and his certificate #603,426. After his death, his wife applied for her widow's pension. Her application is #893,833, and her certificate #664,877. Contributor: donnatreez (46803539) Obituary quoted from the Fairfield, Iowa Ledger, Feb. 19, 1908 Born near Chambersburg, Pa. March 6, 1825 and grew to manhood there. Married in 1845 to Eliza Jane McFarland who died in childbirth at Louisville, Ohio in Stark Co. on May 1, 1855. There were five children. Jacob C. Fry came to Jefferson Co., Iowa Sept. 1, 1856 and located in Leberty Twp. Here he married Isabelle Anderson March 17, 1860. There were five more children, four living in 1908. Mr. Fry was engaged in farming and other pursuits in the vicinity of Libertyville until 1892, when he came to this city (Fairfield). He operated a saw mill several years. In 1904, he removed to St. Paul. Minnestoa where he died from Pneumonia on Feb. 13, 1908. In 1861, Mr. Fry enlisted for services in the Civil War as a musician in the Fourth Cavalry. He resigned from this unit to aid int he organization of Co. H, 30th Iowa Infantry which was largely composed of old friends and neighbors. Always a man of the strictest honesty and utmost integrity, he was a man who aided both in makeing this country what it is and protecting it from its enemies. Contributor: clueless (46877346)
