Description	:	On January 8, 1886 JACOB C. VOGEL was born in Clear Creek township, south of Talleyrand, the son of Frank and Kathryn Vogel. A few years later he moved with his parents to a farm on the west side of Clear Creek township where he grew to manhood. In 1907 he with his brother Andrew moved to Alberta Canada. On February 22, 1911 he was... Read More	On January 8, 1886 JACOB C. VOGEL was born in Clear Creek township, south of Talleyrand, the son of Frank and Kathryn Vogel. A few years later he moved with his parents to a farm on the west side of Clear Creek township where he grew to manhood. In 1907 he with his brother Andrew moved to Alberta Canada. After ten years he moved to a farm near Derby, Iowa, and in 1920 to a farm south of Chariton, Iowa, where he lived until he passed to his eternal reward on April 14, 1934. On February 22, 1911 he was united in marriage at Ss. Peter and Pauls church in Clear Creek by the Rev. H. Sendbuehler to Anna M. Hammes, daughter of the late Peter and Anna Hammes of Clear Creek. To this union were born six sons, Alvin, Ralph, Vernon, James, Bernard and Louis who remain to mourn his loss with his wife, his mother, Mrs. Cathryn Vogel of Sigourney, seven sisters, Mrs. J. P. Dumont of Ollie, Mrs. C. P. Hammes of Sigourney, Mrs. Henry Hammen of Harper, Mrs. Wm. Allar of Sigourney, Kathryn, Regina and Mary of Iowa City and seven brothers, Andrew of Keota, Mike E. of Chicago, Illinois; Frank of Wellman, Joe of Harper, Lawrence of Ottumwa, Leo of Keota and Carl of Sigourney. He was ill only a few days, passing away on April 14. A short service was held at Sacred Heart church, Chariton, on Sunday afternoon with a large attendance of neighbors and friends. From there the body was taken to his old home which is now occupied by Carl Vogel. Funeral services were conducted at Ss. Peter and Pauls church at Clear Creek on Monday, April 16. Requiem high mass was read by his local pastor, the Rev. O'Conner of Chariton. He also preached the funeral sermon. Burial was made on the family lot at Clear Creek. The Rev. P. Kleinfelder, local pastor of Ss. Peter and Pauls church gave the absolution at the grave. Six nephews acted as pall bearers, Leonard and Wilford Dumont, Richard, Raymond and Norbert Hammes and Ernest Allar. He was always a loving husband and a helpful friend and neighbor to all. He had many good deeds and always a kind word for everybody and will be sorely missed by his many friends and relatives. The funeral was largely attended. Those from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. George Yocum, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bonnet, Mr. Jim Kelly, Mr. M. V. Smith, Mr. Herman Steinbeck and daughter Mary of Chariton, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Leinen, his son, Nick and wife and Frances of Portsmouth, Iowa; Lawrence Vogel and wife of Ottumwa; Kathryn, Regina and Mary Vogel of Iowa City and Mrs. M.
