Description	:	Jacob Franklin Ebe was an older son of Henry and Susan Eshelman Ebe. He may have been the oldest; at least, he was the oldest child for which a birthday is known. He was born on 18 Oct 1858 in Iowa. He lived in Iowa, Utah, and California. He registered to vote in California, and the Great Register for San Joaquin County of 1892 actually captured his physical description: "33 years, five foot ten, dark complexion, hazel eyes, black hair, no visible marks or scars, grain buyer born in Iowa." (Paraphrased) Jacob married Ella Florence Nolan on 29 July 1897 at 38 years of age. They had two daughters: Cecelia Barbara b.1898; and Genevieve b.1901. In 1900 we find Jacob, his wife Ella, and daughter Cecelia living in Tulare township, San Joaquin county. Jacob is farming, and they own their house free and clear. A good life. But by 1910, in Tulare we find Jacob widowed, and living alone as a lodger, working on his own account as a fire insurance agent. Then three years later, Jacob dies in Modesto, Stanislaus, California. Apparently, his wife died before 1910, but what happened to his little girls? We find Cecelia living in Los Angeles in 1910 and 1920, with her aunt, Jacob's sister Clara Bell Scherer. By 1930, Cecelia is living with two of her mother's sisters and a brother of her mother, Aunt Susan Nolan being the head of the household. Cecelia lived to be 93. We find Genevieve living in 1910 in Oakland, with her maternal grandparents; James Nolan of New York and Cecelia, maiden name unfound, of Ireland. In 1920 we find Genevieve living with her Grandpa James only, his wife having passed away. Genevieve married John L Gail about 1924, bore children, and lived to be the age of 73. Jacob married late, had a short marriage, and died early. It seemed good to learn that, at least his daughters had loving support and lived full lives.
