Oltman, at the age of 82 years, 1 month and 1 day. Mr. Frey was baptized and united with the First Presbyterian church at Berne, Switzerland, at the age of eighteen years. He came to America with his parents, brothers and sisters in a sail boat, and settled on a farm near Allegan, Michigan. In the year 1883 he was united in marriage to Mis (sic) Anna GrosClaus. Two years later they moved to Nebraska, where he has lived ever since. To this union were born six children. Two boys died in infancy, four are left to mourn his loss, namely Mrs. Anna Sues of Danbury, Nebraska; Mrs. Emma Oltman of Nelson, Nebraska; Amil of Car Crossing, Colorado; and Arthur of Fairfield, Nebraska; also an aged sister and brother of Allegan, Michigan. Two brothers preceded him in death. Fourteen children (NOTE: I believe this should be grandchildren) also survive him. He was a good father and neighbor believing in honesty and plain ways. There is a cause of thanksgiving that sh should be spared for his loved ones these many years; spared to his life companion who was an invalid for many years, yet he took care of her tenderly until she was called home a few years ago. Our departed brother was a true friend which means much in life although we may not realize their value until they are gone. One of the old timers and a pioneer has gone from our midst today, and the community mourns his loss. One by one they are taken from us and we are called upon not only to mourn but appreciate them. They who toiled and labored and bore the heat of the day. They endured trials and tribulations and sufferings; a heroic race, laying down the foundation of the institutions which bless our community. We would that we might catch of their heroic spirit, their fortitude, their sense of duty and labors of love. Besides the relatives, the deceased leaves behind a large circle of friends and neighbors who mourn his loss. Oh! thou who didst prepare the ocean's cavern cell, And teach the gathering waters there to meet and dwell, Tossed in our reeling bark, upon this briny sea, Thy wondrous way, O Lord, we mark and bow in prayer to Thee. The funeral was held from the Oltman home Monday afternoon, the services being conducted by pastor of the deceased, Rev. Stephen H. Jones of the Presbyterian church (sic) and he was assisted by Rev. Hewitt of the United Brethren church (sic).
