Born Jan. 20, 1915, in Franklin, he was the son of Edward and Helen Kirchner Hohl. On Feb. 10, 1940, he married Dorothy Alberta Seyb in Franklin. She died May 6, 1986. Mr. Hohl was a farmer. Hohl, 93, of Donnellson died at 1:50 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison. Born Jan. 20, 1915, in Franklin, he was the son of Edward and Helen Kirchner Hohl. On Feb. 10, 1940, he married Dorothy Alberta Seyb in Franklin. She died May 6, 1986. Mr. Hohl was a farmer. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Franklin, where he was devoted and involved in every aspect of the church. He served on the St. Peter's Cemetery Board and was a 60-year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles No. 1287 in Fort Madison. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed his farm, cattle, working in the timber, picking up hickory nuts with his brother, Carl, playing cards and making wine. Survivors include one daughter, Clarissa Benner of Quincy, Ill.; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Hohl of Keosauqua; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Schmitz-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory in Donnellson, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Hohl will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Franklin, with the Rev. Robert Koepcke officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Franklin. A memorial has been established for St. Peter's United Church of Christ.
