Description	:	Jacob H. Palmer was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania on August 5, 1831, He was married to Miss Mary S. Cochran of the same county on February 8, 1858. Soon after their marriage they moved to Illinois, then to Iowa, then to Missouri, living some time in each state. Finally, in the hope of bettering their condition and making a good home, they came to Nebraska, locating in this county in the fall of 1875. Palmer was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania on August 5, 1831, He was married to Miss Mary S. Cochran of the same county on February 8, 1858. Soon after their marriage they moved to Illinois, then to Iowa, then to Missouri, living some time in each state. Finally, in the hope of bettering their condition and making a good home, they came to Nebraska, locating in this county in the fall of 1875. Mr. and Mrs. Palmer were blessed with eight children, five boys and three girls, one each of whom preceded the aged parent to the spirit world, there to await his coming. J. H. Palmer died on November 3, 1897 at his home west of Battle Creek. He was 66 years, 2 months, and 28 days old. He had been ailing, in fact was in quite poor health for several years, and his death was not unexpected. Mr. Palmer was well thought of as a neighbor and citizen, and he had hosts of friends who mourn his departure and sympathize with the grief-stricken relatives. Reverend G. W. Damon conducted the funeral, which was held in the Battle Creek Methodist Episcopal Church. There was a large attendence at the funeral considering the disagreeable weather which prevailed at the time. Transcribed from the "Battle Creek Republican" dated November 12, 1897.
