Description	:	Jacob D. Hootman Jacob Daniel Hootman, son of Jacob and Mary Hootman was born near Douds on August 12, 1855 and died at 4:30 p,m. Aug 28, 1944 at the home of his son Earl Hootman near Douds, after an illness of six months, the span of his life was 89 years and 14 days. Hootman Jacob Daniel Hootman, son of Jacob and Mary Hootman was born near Douds on August 12, 1855 and died at 4:30 p,m. Aug 28, 1944 at the home of his son Earl Hootman near Douds, after an illness of six months, the span of his life was 89 years and 14 days. He was the last of his family to pass away. being preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. He lived on the farm on which he was born most of his life and only three weeks preceding his death, did he move in with his son on an ajonining farm, In harly years he was a woodman, but spent most of his life farming. In Dec. 1885 he was united in marriage with Eliza Mercer. To this union was born only one son Earl Hootman, who lives on a farm near Douds. "Big Jake" as he was commonly know by all his friends, who were many, was friendly and always ready to lend a helping hand, All though (sic) the long months of his sickness he never uttered a word of complaint. He will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services were held Aug 28, 1944 at the Zion Lutheran church by Rev. G.J. Dingman.
