April 24, 1937 - Carroll Daily Herald - Jacob J Heller, a resident of Carroll for 36 years, died suddenly at his home, 308 North West street, Saturday morning. Mr Heller had gradually failed in health since the death of his wife nearly two years ago. During the last week he had not felt as well as usual but it was thought his illness was caused by over exertion from working in his garden. He was able to be up and about the home until Thursday and had been confined to bed for only a day. He passed away at the age of 77. A daughter, Mrs O.L. McClure, of Council Bluffs came Thursday night. Three sons and daughters-in-law, Mr and Mrs Lawrence Heller and Mr and Mrs Al Heller of Chicago, and Mr and Mrs Frank Heller and family of Appleton, WI are also here, having arrived Saturday morning. Another son, Theodore Heller of San Francisco, will arrive Sunday. The body was taken Saturday afternoon from the Gregory Funeral home to the family home on North West street, where it will remain until the services. Rites will be held Tuesday morning at Ss, Peter and Pauls church, with Rev L Schenkelberg reading the requiem mass. Burial will be beside his wife in the parish cemetery. Mr. Heller, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Joseph Heller, was born in Grant county. Wis., December 15, 1859. Most of his life was spent in Carroll county, where he came at the age of 21. He was married to Miss Mary Morman at Holy Angels church, Roselle, on June 20, 1883. Their first home was on a farm near Templeton. They afterward lived in the town of Templeton before moving to Carroll, which had been Mr. Heller's home for 36 years. Mr. Heller was in the employ of the Heider Manufacturing company here for a number of years. In 1932 he began working as janitor of the south public school, but because of ill health he was forced to discontinue this work after a few years of service. Mr. Heller was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul's church and also of the Holy Name Society of the parish. On June 26, 1933, Mr. and Mrs. Heller celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. All of their children were home for the occasion. Mrs. Heller passed away June 30, 1935. Survivors include twelve children, six sons and six daughters. They are Frank Heller, Appleton, Wis.; Lawrence and Al Heller, Chicago; Theodore Heller, San Francisco, Calif; Henry Heller, Manning; Joseph E. Heller, Mrs. Thomas Mitchell (Amelia) and Mrs. Frank Baumhover (Anna), Carroll; Mrs. E.P. Meister (Elizabeth), Lake View; Mrs. Nick Kramer (Mary), Maple River; Mrs. O.L. McClure (Laura), Council Bluffs, and Miss Rosina Heller, at home. Mr. Heller also leaves 34 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Emma Halter of Chicago, and one brother, Henry Heller of Carroll.
