Read More	Obituary: Jacob Jacobsen Jacob Jacobsen died at his home in Wyoming Sunday morning, July 12th 1912, after an illness of about two weeks. Mr. Jacobsen was born November 10th, 1849, at Terkerbuell, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He grew to manhood, following the life of a tiller of the soil. On December 19th, 1875, and at Bergembusen, Germany, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Marguerita Chatharina Freese, who survives him. To this union eight children were born- six boys and two girls. Of these two sons and one daughter died in infancy in the Fatherland. Those surviving are: Peter and Gustav of this township: Thomas still in Germany; Carl, who resides near Onslow; and Miss Jobine at home. Four sisters and one brother: Maria, Dorathea, Patea Patrea, Chatharina and Andrew, still survive, all living in the Homeland. Mr. Jacobsen came to America with his wife and family in 1904, settling near Hale, Iowa. From there he moved on to a farm near Onslow, thence on to the Benson farm east of Wyoming, and in the spring of 1910 purchased a home and moved into Wyoming to spend his declining years in ease and quite. Mr. Jacobsen was an honest and upright man and leaves many warm friends among his countryman who knew him best, which fact was evidenced by the long procession that followed the remains to their last resting place. He was a man of excellent habits, sturdy costitution and he continued to be active almost to the end. Although he was a member of no particular church, he exemplified, by his pure and honorable life, the teachings of the Golden Rule, and unfailing evinced a practical piety that will long be remembered as the best of professons. He believed that the man who scatters flowers in the path way of his fellowmen, who lets into the dark places of life the sunshine of human sympathy and human happiness, is following in the footsteps of the Master. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the German Lutheran church, conducted by Rev. A. Bartels of Olin. Interment was had in the Wyoming cemetery. ---- Card of Thanks--- Through the columus of The Journal we desire to return our warmest thanks to the citizens of this community for kindness and sympathy extended to us during the sickness and death of our beloved husband and father. ---- Jacob and Anna with their children lived in Lech, Germany before coming to America. Jacob and Anna with their two children Carl and Jobena boarded the ship "Graf Molkte" and sailed to America. They arrived in New York, New York on March 27, 1904. The family traveled to Iowa to be with their son Peter who immigrated in 1900 to America. Their son Thomas also came to America, but later went back to serve in the German Army in WWI. He was killed in action. Jacob and Anna's other son Gustav and his wife Lucy and family came to America in 1909 to join them. Jacob passed away from an intestinal obstruction and is buried by his wife and granddaughter. Jacobs grandson Gustav Charles Jacobsen put their headstone at the cemetery.
