Read More	Presumaby buried in Harlan Cemetery. ````````````` From an 1893 Nance County, Nebraska, newspaper clipping file, publication date unknown, transcribed by Linda Berney: A Sad Accident - Last Thursday Jake Vogt left Fullerton for Harlen, Iowa, his old home for a few weeks visit. His wife had preceded him some two weeks and it was the intention to spend the fall there with old friends and relatives. But no man can tell what a day may bring forth, and on coming down town Friday noon we learned that a telegram had come from Omaha saying, "Vogt was dead," Nothing was learned of how it occurred until the Omaha papers arrived the next day which contained the following account of the accident: "Jacob Vogt, formerly of Harlan, Ia., but who had been working for a man named Bowen at Fullerton, Neb., while attempting to board an out going passenger train, at the Rock Island depot last evening, about 6 o'clock, slipped and fell between the platform and the moving cars. He was run over and both of his legs were cut off just below the nee and the legs above that point were so badly mangled that amputation would have been necessary, if performed at all, between the knee and thigh on both legs. Vogt was enroute from Fullerton to Harlan, where his wife is. He had become intoxicated, and it was largely owing to his drunken condition that the accident occurred. He is 43 years old. At a late hour last evening the injured man had not rallied sufficiently to stand an amputation, and his physicians thought he would live but a short time. Vogt died about 2 o'clock this morning. His relatives were summoned by telegraph and arrived here during the night." The following day the World Herald also contained this notice: Vogt Died "Jacob Vogt, the man who was injured by falling under a Rock Island train Thursday evening, died at an early hour yesterday morning. Four cars ran over him and the shock was so great that he never sufficiently recovered to stand the amputation of his crushed legs. His relatives from Harlan were here. The body was taken to Harlan yesterday for burial. Vogt leaves a wife and eight children."
