Rink Dates on Tombstone = 4 July 1842 - 19 Jan. 1903 Parents = Obituary The Hooper Sentinel January 22, 1903 John Jacob Ludwig Rink was born July 4, 1842, in the village of Spierbach, Wiesbaden, Germany, and died at his home near Hooper, Nebraska, January 19th, 1903, of pneumonia. His boyhood and youth were spent in his native village. In 1866 he came to the United States, locating first in Indiana. In 1869 he came to Dodge county, Nebraska, and shortly afterward engaged in the hardware business in Hooper which he continued until 1879 when he moved onto his farm, 4 miles northwest of Hooper and where he made his home ever since. In 1877 he was married to Miss Bertha Pagenkopf, of Scribner, and who died December 23, 1899. A family of ten children are thus left orphaned, six of them being minors, the youngest being 4 years old. Deceased was a gentleman in every respect, whose aim in life was to do right and treat his fellow men with kindness and honesty. This won for him the highest regard and esteem of everyone. To his family he was always a kind and devoted husband and father. In his death the community has lost one of its best citizens and will feel deeply his loss, and his orphaned children will have the sympathy of everyone. Mr. Rink was a faithful member of St. John's German Lutheran church and lived and died a Christian. Funeral services were held at the house and church yesterday at 12 o'clock, his pastor Rev. A.
