Rootsweb - Family story about how Jacob drove a Conestoga wagon carrying supplies to the Union soldiers at the battle of Antietam. The wagon was loaded at the supply depot at Carlisle, and he delivered his cargo right to the front lines. As he neared the front, the dead and injured were so thickly spread on the ground that he was unable to drive his team through without frequent stops to clear a path--which he did, as the supplies were desperately needed, but the experience stayed with him the rest of his life. Jacob related that people of Kennedy's valley where he lived could hear the boom of cannons during the battles.
