Description	:	Obituary: "Jacob Odell Davis, one of the early settlers of this section, a veteran of the Civil War and for 9 years a resident of Castana, died at his home on Pine St. on Tuesday of this week. He was over 72 years of age. Until a few weeks ago, he had been confined to his bed for over 7 months on account of a broken hip. His recovery from this injury seemed probable but his impaired constitution could not withstand the battle against disease and old age and he finally succumbed. ... Read More	Obituary: "Jacob Odell Davis, one of the early settlers of this section, a veteran of the Civil War and for 9 years a resident of Castana, died at his home on Pine St. on Tuesday of this week. His recovery from this injury seemed probable but his impaired constitution could not withstand the battle against disease and old age and he finally succumbed. Mr. Davis was born Jan. 7, 1836. He was married to Rosetta Barrick on Jan. of 1861 and later in the same year, he enlisted in Company A, Seventh Illinois Cavalry and served continuously until the close of the war. Eleven children were born to Mr. & Mrs. Davis, 10 of whom survive their father. Eight were at his bedside when he died. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church by Rev. A.D. Husling and internment was at Kennebec."
