They immigrated to America in Oct. 1885 with 5 of Jacob's siblings and his grandparents, Andreas and Jacobina (Wetzel) Schindler. They settled first in the Menno, SD area. Jacob married Susanna Schmidt, daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth (Tempel) Schmidt (later Gellner) in 1902. Family records show they had at least 12 children, but only 7 survived to adulthood.
