March 18, 1915 - Carroll Times - Jacob Sievers died at his home in Carroll Friday, March 12, after an illness of about three months, the cause of death being asthma and heart trouble. Mr. Sievers was born December 26th, 1839, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and was married in 1863 to Caroline Snyder, while still a resident of the old country. They came to America in 1865 and settled first at Davenport, Iowa, but eight years later, in 1873. they moved to Carroll county and settled on a farm in Sheridan township. In the same year the wife died and Mr. Sievers returned to Davenport with his five children: Henry, Katherine, Jacob, Caroline, and Hans, making the trip overland by wagon. In 1875 he was again married to Mrs. Fred Kroeger, of Davenport, and in the same year they moved to Glidden, where they lived until the spring of 1876, when he again located on the farm in Sheridan township. Here he made his home until 1894, when they came to Carroll where they have since resided. He leaves to mourn his death his aged wife, four children and two step-children. The names of the children are: Henry and Jacob Sievers, of Sheridan township, Hans Sievers, of Carroll, Mrs. J.W. Zurmahr, of Breda, and the step-children are Fred Kroeger, of Grant township, and Mrs. George Hesseling of Manning. Three children preceded their father in death, their names being Katherine, Mrs. Herm. Ewald, of Eldridge, Iowa, who died in 1898, Carrie Sievers, who died on the farm, in 1889, and an Infant son, John, who died on the farm in October 1876. Besides the above named children there are 29 living grand children and 5 great-grandchildren. He leaves two sisters living, Mrs. Ollie Schoel, of Davenport, and Mrs. Annie Rolfes, of West Liberty, Iowa. The funeral services were held at the home and at the Lutheran church in Lidderdale, Iowa. Interment was made at Mt. Hope cemetery, in Sheridan township, where also his first wife and infant son lie at rest. Mr Sievers was a good citizen, a kind and loving husband and father, and will be much missed by those who have known him and especially by those of his own household. The following persons from a distance were in attendance at the funeral: Christ and Emma Ewald, of West Liberty, Iowa, Mrs. George Sievers, and Mrs. Fred Sievers, of Gillman, Iowa, Frank Stork and Mrs. Joseph Olerich, of Breda, Iowa.
