Description	:	"Oskaloosa Independent" - Friday, December 30, 1932 JAKE POTTORF DIES - Jake Pottorf, 69, died Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 28, from cancer of the face. He had been suffering several years and had undergone many treatments. The week before his death Mr. Pottorf stayed in the Buckmaster property a block east of the square, where members of his family took care of him. He had lived in this community, northeast of town, for 52 years. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Methodist church and burial will be in Pleasant View cemetery. "Oskaloosa Independent" - Thursday, 5 January 1933 OBITUARY-POTTORF - Jacob Willis Pottorf was born the 7th of March 1863 at Sheffield, Illinois, the youngest son of Samuel and Mary Pottorf and departed this life at Oskaloosa, Kansas, age 69 years. At the age of 17 he came with his mother to Kansas and settled near Oskaloosa in the Lone Tree neighborhood. In the year 1884 he was united in marriage to Sarah Belle Whirlow. To this union were born 8 children. Five sons, Will of the home, George and Frank of Oskaloosa; John of Linwood, Kansas and Fred of Cuthbert, South Dakota. Three daughters, Mrs. Nellie Carr of Ottumwa, Iowa, Mrs. Frank Barbee of Michigan Valley, Kansas, and Mrs. Ruth Reddick, of Oskaloosa. He also leaves to mourn his loss 13 grandchildren and one great grandson. He was very patient in his suffering and bore his burden cheerfully to the last. He will be sadly missed by his relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church Friday afternoon with Rev. Earl O. Harbour officiating. Interment was made at Pleasant View.
