His second marriage was to Katharina Heupel. They had twelve children. He died at Tyndall, South Dakota on July 14, 1919 and was buried at Wittmeier Cemetery on July 16th. He was survived by his second wife and three sons, George, Jakob and Peter and four daughters. Wittmeier Cemetery-The isolated Wittmeier Cemetery lay untended for many years after the apparent last burial in 1919. A warranty deed dated February 16, 1894, records that Friedrich and Eva Winckler, his wife, conveyed to the Congregational German Emanuel Gemeinde of Upper Emanuel Creek a three acre parcel of land to be used for church and burial ground.
