"Jacky" Heland, 80, of Glendale, Arizona, formerly of Burlington, died Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at Beatitudes Care Center in Phoenix. Born May 27, 1926, in Ottumwa, Iowa, she was the daughter of Willis J. Musgrove and Wilma J. King Musgrove North. On February 4, 1956, she married Leo T. Heland at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottumwa. Mrs. Heland had worked in various occupations throughout her life including John Morell's Meat Plant and Frito Lays, both formerly of Ottumwa, and as a caregiver in Burlington. She was an active member of St. Paul's Catholic Church while in Burlington. She was a Harold Hughes/John Kennedy democrat who valued greatly her citizenship as a participant in the American Dream. Jacky taught her children to be loving, caring members of their communities. Leo and Jacky moved to the Phoenix area about ten years ago; the climate was much better for her and she was closer to her loving daughter, Mary. She was a great sports fan as she followed both Arizona sports and politics. Survivors include her husband, Leo; two sons, Jeff M. (Cindy) Heland and Tom M. (Donna) Heland, both of Burlington; one daughter, Mary C. Heland of Glendale, AZ; four granddaughters, Allison M. (Heland) Behne, Dustin Jane (Heland) Embree, Kelli Heland, Erin Heland; three great grandchildren, Samantha R. Behne, Nathan Behne and Rylea Elizabeth Hinebaugh; four sisters, Ann North of Riverside, CA, Lillie Latch of Greenfield, MO, Terri Wymore of Oskaloosa, IA; and Ellen Nally of Northumberland, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. As per the request of Mrs. Heland her body has been cremated. The Celebration of Life for Mrs. Heland will be Saturday, November 4, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Inurnment will be at a later date at St. Mary's Cemetery in Weller, Iowa. A memorial has been established for the Alzheimer's Association.
