Description	:	James A. Franklin was born 20 Jan 1847, one of eleven children born to John Henry Franklin and Sarah Chenoweth. John and Sarah Franklin resided in Warren County, Ohio and then in Perry Township, Allen County, Ohio. James A. Franklin enlisted in the Civil War as a private in Company C, 198th Regiment, Ohio Infantry. He married Rachel Ann Schooler in 1868 (Allen County, Ohio marriage records Book B, page 349). James and Rachel Franklin remained in Allen county, and had at least five children: Emmet, born 1871; James Oliner, born 1873; Mary Ella, born 1875; Lena Estella, born 1877; and Bertha L., born 1882. After Rachel died in 1906, James resided with his daughter Mary Ellen, who married Christie Ebling, and with son James Oliner Franklin. An obituary for James A. Franklin, 90, one of the few Civil war veterans in Allen county, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday at the home of his son, J. O. Franklin, in Perry township. He had been ill five days. The aged veteran was born in Allen county and had lived in this district except for 10 years he spent in Oklahoma. He was a member of the Perry Union Methodist Protestant church. In addition to J. O. Franklin, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ella Ebling of Warren, and Mrs. J. M. Murray, of Dewey, Okla., and another son E. A. Franklin, also of Dewey. Funeral arrangements have not been completed. The body will be taken from Soward's mortuary to the home of J. O. Franklin Thursday afternoon.
