Description	:	James was the eldest of three born to Arthur and Josephine (Chapek) Krecek. He graduated from Omaha Central High School in June 1939 and continued his education at the University of Omaha studying for an engineering degree. He worked summers for the Union Pacific Railroad in the Engineering Department , to earn tuition funds. In early June 1941, he was fortunate to receive an appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis (MD). Read More	James was the eldest of three born to Arthur and Josephine (Chapek) Krecek. He graduated from Omaha Central High School in June 1939 and continued his education at the University of Omaha studying for an engineering degree. He worked summers for the Union Pacific Railroad in the Engineering Department , to earn tuition funds. In early June 1941, he was fortunate to receive an appointment to the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis (MD). After a shortened course (3 yrs) which particiapted in the succesful assault at Iowa-Jima and Okinawa. When Japan finally capitualted, he married his teen sweetheart, Elsie and was tranfered from the Massachuetts to the USS Pensacola (CA24) as an engineer officer; Pensacola was one of many ships that became targets of two A-Bob detonations in the Bikini Atoll of the Pacific. in 1947, he resigned his commission and joined General Electric Co. as a steam turbine engineer. Four years into that discipline, he was recalled to active duty and served in the USS Beale (Dd471) as its engineer officer for the Korean War. He returned to GE and retired in 1980, completing a 35-year career which he thoroughly enjoyed because of the any wonderful people he met. In his retirement he volunteered on golf related projects over a 10-12 year period for Town of Yarmouth. He and Elsie, created and maintained a bluebird trail at both Yarmouth courses, Bass River and Bayberry Hills. Their success fledged dozens of young bluebirds and other species as well.
