Description	:	LINCOLN — James A. McConnell, 88, of Lincoln died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, 245 N. 27th Street, Lincoln. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the Bureau Cemetery (Pierce Chapel) near Clarks. McConnell was born Dec. 12, 1925, in Merrick County to George and Mary (Fish) McConnell. James attended District 50 and graduated from Central City High School in 1944. He was a track star and a good football player. McConnell was born Dec. 12, 1925, in Merrick County to George and Mary (Fish) McConnell. James attended District 50 and graduated from Central City High School in 1944. He was a track star and a good football player. He was a retired high school math teacher and track coach at East High School. In 1994, he was one of the first inductees to the Central City High School Hall of Fame. He married Alice Marie Gregg on June 27, 1948, at Pierce Chapel Church. He married Lola Schuck on July 16, 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Alice; grandson, Aaron; brothers, Francis and Lester; and a sister, Mildred. He is survived by his wife, Lola; children and spouses, Lynn (Ken) Barnard of Sydney, Australia, Alan (Julie) McConnell of Austin, Texas, Robin (Sandie) McConnell of Lincoln, David (Rebecca) McConnell of Omaha, and Judy (Bruce) King of Lincoln; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Letha Grassman of San Diego, Calif.
