Description	:	Mildred E. Mesner, 83, of Central City died on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Monarch House in Lincoln. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. March 19 at Solt Funeral Home in Central City, with the Rev. Paul Blanchard officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Central City Cemetery. Mrs. Mesner was born on Sept. 14, 1927, on the family farm northeast of Central City to George H. and Elizabeth (Fish) McConnell. She married Kenneth Lyle Mesner on Nov. 28, 1946, at the Central City Friends Meetinghouse. She was preceded in death by an infant son; twin infant daughters; and two adult children, Janet Lynn and Martin Alan Mesner. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband; a daughter, Marilyn Grossenbacher of Lincoln; two sons, Robert Mesner of Omaha and Kurt Mesner of Central City; a brother, James McConnell of Lincoln; and a sister, Letha Grassman of San Diego. Also left to cherish her memory are four grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian Grossenbacher of Lincoln and Amber and Felicia Mesner of Omaha; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Izabella and Wyatt; and many nieces and nephews. Mildred attended elementary school at District 50 and high school at Central City High School, graduating with the class of 1946. She received a teaching certificate from Nebraska Central College in Central City and taught in the Merrick County schools for three years. She attended District 50 Sunday School until she married Kenneth. Mildred joined the Friends Meeting in 1946 and remained a lifelong member. She was very active in working in the Sunday school and was a member of the Women's Society. Since the closing of the meetinghouse, Mildred had been attending the United Methodist Church in Central City. Mildred was also a member of the Star Lighters Extension Club for many years. Mildred lived on a farm all of her married life, ending on the Mesner family farm. She always loved taking good care of her family and feeding them well. She took great joy in not only her immediate family, but also the many in-laws and the extended Mesner and Watkins families. Also preceding her in death were her parents; stepfather, Fred Welsh; and brothers, George (Francis) and Lester McConnell. Memorials are suggested to the Merrick County Food Pantry at the Central Nebraska Community Services in Central City.
