Description	:	James married Myrtle Sammons on September 9, 1900, in Henry County, Iowa. According to the marriage record, James was the son of Samuel and Susan B. (Daughtry) Whipple. I had not been able to figure out why James' obituary gives his mother's maiden name as Susan Daugherty James, and a family member recently informed me that the James on the end of her name was an error in the obituary. Whipple, 78, of 317 Bardell street, died at 2:05 a.m. today at his home. The son of Samuel and Susan Daugherty James, he was born March 10, 1875, in Henry county. He had lived in Ottumwa the past 37 years. He was a member of M.W. of A. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Orville Gruwell and Mrs. Harold Sawyer of Ottumwa and Mrs. Rex Roberts of Alamogordo, N.M., six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one half-brother, Earl Whipple of Clearmont, Mo. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson funeral chapel with burial in Memorial Lawn cemetery.
