Description	:	September 16, 1961 - Carroll Daily Times - James A. Vanderheiden, 51, Carroll County bridge foreman, was accidentally killed by an electric shock about 1:15 p.m. Friday while supervising work on the Hansman bridge two miles north of Willey, Dr. Roland B. Morrison, County Medical Examiner, reported. Mr. Vanderheiden was standing behind a boom truck, operated by Joseph Heller Jr., and apparently accidentally touched the truck as the boom came in contact with a 6,600 volt IPS power line, Dr. Morrison said. Morrison, County Medical Examiner, reported. Mr. Vanderheiden was standing behind a boom truck, operated by Joseph Heller Jr., and apparently accidentally touched the truck as the boom came in contact with a 6,600 volt IPS power line, Dr. Morrison said. The medical examination showed Mr. Vanderheiden's left hand was burned and the soles of his shoes were charred where the current passed through nails used to fasten rubber soles to the shoes, the medical examiner said. Mr. Heller, in the cab of the truck, was insulated and did not receive the shock. John Beyerink, another bridge employee, was standing near the front of the truck and did not see the accident, Dr. Morrison reported. Mr. Vanderheiden had been a county employee for 32 years. Requiem mass will be read at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Church by the Very Rev. Msgr. Edward V. Vollmer; and burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home after 1:30 p.m. Sunday. The rosary will be recited Sunday at 3, 7:30 and 9 p.m.; on Monday at 3 p.m.; at 8 p.m. by Charles Carroll Council, Knights of Columbus; and at 9 p.m. Survivors include his wife, Frances, and two children: Mrs. Cyril (Teresa) Renze and James A. Vanderheiden Jr., Carroll: eight grandchildren; his stepmother, Mrs. Nina Vanderheiden, Si1oam Springs, Ark.; and the following brothers and sisters: John Vanderheiden, Mrs. Joe (Rose) Beisch and Raymond Vanderheiden, all of Carroll; Ben Vanderheiden, Wichita, Kan.; George Vanderheiden Auburn; and Charles Vanderheiden, Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. Vanderheiden was born May 30, 1909, at Armor, S.D., a son of Joseph and Teresa Vanderheiden. At the age of three years, he came with his family to Breda, where they lived for about two years before moving to Carroll. He had lived in Carroll since then. He graduated from St. Joseph's parochial school and Carroll High School. His marriage to Frances Koon took place Jan. 18, 1930, at SS. Peter and Paul Church, the late Rev. Lambert Schenkelberg officiating, and they made their home in Carroll. The present home is at 918 Quint Avenue. He was a member of St. Lawrence Church and Charles Carroll Council, Knights of Columbus. He had been an employe of Carroll County Maintenance since 1930, and was bridge foreman at the time of his death. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Henry and Joe Vanderheiden.
